Aids for the purchase

Here you will find aids for the purchase of sustainable vehicles or you can ask at your dealership.

Procedures

1. Vehicle registration

The dealer that sells the vehicle carries out the registration procedures of the vehicle. There also are agencies authorised to carry out the procedures, or else it can be done by the user him/herself. It must be taken into account that low-emission vehicles can be entitled to incentives:

  • Payment of the licencing taxes at the Tax Agency: for vehicles with CO2 emissions under 120 g/km the licencing tax is free.
  • Reverse-charge of the circulation tax: this tax is paid at the city council of the municipality that appears in the register of the DGT. Some city councils have discounts of up to 75% on the IVTM for low-emission or electric vehicles, ask at your municipality in order to enjoy this bonus.
  • Submit the vehicle documents and the proofs of payment at the provincial traffic delegation where the documents will be validated and you will be given a plate number.
  • With the validated documents and the number, the number plate and the vehicle registration certificate will be printed.

2. Registering at ecovia-T

To enjoy discounts in tolls and to use the BUS-HVO lane, you must meet the requirements described in this link.

  • ViaT users can enjoy a 30% discount in tolls during weekdays and are authorised to drive on the BUS-HVO lane of the C-58. To this end, you will be sent an official label that you must stick onto your vehicle’s windscreen.
  • Those drivers that are not ViaT users can only drive on the BUS-HVO lane of the C-58 and do not enjoy discounts in motorways. To this end, you will be sent an official label that you must stick onto your vehicle’s windscreen.

3. CARD TO CHARGE THE VEHICLE IN PUBLIC POINTS

There are different suppliers of charging points of public access both for NGV and electric vehicles. In most cases, to use the charging points on the public road you need a specific recharging card. To use the electric power recharging points of the Barcelona City Council you need to obtain the Electric vehicle card:

  • The electric vehicle card is an ID for users of electric vehicles in the city of Barcelona. This card offers the possibility of recharging your car using the public network of recharging points on the public road at a €0 rate.
  • To recharge the vehicle in underground points in municipal public car parks, you do not need to use the card.
  • To apply for the electric vehicle card of Barcelona, the documents must be sent to the virtual branch of the Barcelona City Council. For any doubt or problem related to the card call 010* or the online helpline of the Barcelona City Council.

Other cards: IBIL, Ajuntament de Sant Cugat del Vallès, Ajuntament de Girona, Ajuntament de Reus, Ajuntament de Sabadell, Ajuntament de Terrassa i Ajuntament de Caldes d’Estrac.

*Set-up: €0.47 Cost/min: €0.06 Rates per seconds. VAT included.

4. ACTIVATE OTHER BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE VEHICLES

Depending on the municipality there are other benefits for electric vehicles like for instance parking discounts.

For example, residents in Barcelona that have a 100% electric vehicle can park with a zero euros rate in the preferential green area (not exclusive) or blue area of the city according to the time regulations of each area and as long as they meet the requirements established to obtain the green area resident card.

To obtain the right to park with a zero rate first you have to request the electric vehicle card. Once you have the card you can request the activation of the right to park. To park in blue or green areas you will have to go to the closest parking meter and enter the electric vehicle card to obtain a ticket with a zero euros rate for the maximum time established by the regulation, which is usually 2 hours.

Alternatives to purchase

Sustainable mobility not only applies if you acquire a NGV or electric vehicle. There are alternative ways of moving efficiently:

  • Renting: long-term renting of depreciative goods, such as vehicles, giving you the right to use a car for a specific period of time in exchange for a monthly quota.
  • Leasing: car rental that, at the same time, is used as a financing method, since the rented vehicle can be acquired for its residual value once the contract ends.
  • Rental: contract through which you can use a vehicle in exchange for one or several payments. The duration of this contract is much more limited than in the case of renting.
  • Car sharing: mobility system in which a company or organisation puts at the disposal of its subscriber a fleet of vehicles so that several users can use the same vehicle.
  • Car pooling: practice by which people share a vehicle for regular or sporadic journeys.
  • Public transport: collective passenger transport service with previously defined routes and schedules that any user can use and shares with others.

WHERE CAN I CHARGE MY VEHICLE?

Associated infrastructures

Specially in the case of pluggable electric vehicles, it is essential that the vehicle can be charged at night at an associated recharging point. Installing associated recharging points allows us to make the most of the low power energy demand during the night and benefit from a reduced price in electric power.

The recharging points can be installed in the private or company parking itself. There is also the possibility of using public car parks with the option of power charging point. In the case of the NGV in principle there is not need for an associated infrastructure.

Public network of electric power recharging points and NGV stations.

Both regarding NGV stations and power recharging points, Catalonia has a good distribution of recharging stations. To access the location of these points you can check their whereabouts online in the following maps of the Catalan Energy Agency (ICAEN):

NOTE: If you are registered and you find a problem in any of the recharging points that appear in the Map Viewer or if your entity has a public access recharging point that has not been included in it, please, contact us and let us know the location of the recharging point and, if possible, send us a photograph at: mobilitat.eficient.icaen@gencat.cat
